New features and stability

We’ve just moved house, which has slowed things down quite a lot, but I’ve been working on squashing bugs and a few new features which are coming soon.

I’ve added a mechanism to sync to an external source, it uses the same serial trick as the midi note input but should allow two or more Playdates to play in sync which will allow people to jam together… I’ve also added crank support when scrolling through menus, something I tried to do as a user after a break from using Modular Play, I’m surprised I didn’t think to do it before.

Bug fixes too, 99% of bugs come from removing modules. Each module has to handle this itself internally and make sure it tells all connected modules to lose their attached cables. Any mistake in the code here can break a patch, and that’s the cause of the vast majority of pain.

Video is the first Playdate jam in the new house.

Do you have any approximate release window for something closer to beta/1.0? I want to upgrade from Granular (since you mentioned it's fully included here), but after seeing what kind of crashes happens in alpha, I'm waiting for a more stable release.

What a weird post.

Why exactly? I didn't mean to offend you.

It’s £15, not £150. It’s meant to be fun. You get all future features and fixes. It’s a MASSIVE bit of software with a single dev, so of course there’s some bugs (and the Playdate has plenty of issues of it’s own), but I jam with it all the time without issue.

I'm not complaining about price or bugs, it's unique and amazing app, and I keep going back to this page to track your progress. In description you are saying "Only purchase if you understand there will be rough edges and occasional crashes", and in the bugs section there are examples of crashes and error screens with console reboot - so I'm just not ready to put it on my console. I apologize if asking about any time frame for a more stable release considered rude, I guess I'll just keep checking this page time to time. Good luck with further development!

It, er, won’t kill your console, you just lose current session. Anyway - up to you, but you could be having a lot of fun making music with it.
